How a purchase works
After the free trial the recording offers packages of minutes. You choose one and pay by card through the automated system or the provider's customer service. You are issued a membership ID and PIN, and the minutes are credited to that membership. On our Network Lines general packages run from $5.49 for 10 minutes to $54.99 for 225; gay lines from $16.49 for 30 minutes to $219.99 for 1,130. Third-party lines set their own prices.
No subscription — so what is there to cancel?
Our Network Lines sell one-time blocks of minutes. Nothing renews on its own; if you do not buy again, you are not charged again. Some third-party providers offer an optional auto-refill or membership plan — if you opted into one, the provider's customer service or account menu is where to switch it off. Listen for words like "auto-renew", "recurring" or "monthly" when you purchase, and decline them if you want strictly pay-as-you-go.
Checking your balance
Call the line, enter your membership ID and PIN when prompted, and the recording will state your remaining minutes. You can do this from any phone. If you have lost your ID or PIN, the provider's customer service can recover it using the phone number and payment details you purchased with.
Refunds and unused minutes
Prepaid minutes are generally non-refundable once purchased, in the same way a prepaid phone card is. Providers vary on expiry: our Network Lines describe minutes as yours until used; some third parties apply an expiry window. If you believe you were charged in error — a duplicate purchase, a package you did not select — contact the provider's customer service first, with the date, amount and phone number used.
A charge you do not recognise
Chat line purchases appear on a card statement under the provider's billing name, which is often not the line's brand name. If you see an unfamiliar charge, work through it in this order:
- Check the date against your calls; the billing descriptor may simply be the provider's corporate name.
- Call the provider's customer service (the number is on the recording and usually on the statement) and ask them to identify the purchase.
- If you did not authorise it, ask the provider to reverse it; if they will not, dispute it with your card issuer.
- A legitimate chat line never bills your phone account or adds premium-rate charges. If your phone bill shows one, contact your carrier.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to cancel a chat line membership?
On our Network Lines, no — packages are one-time purchases and nothing renews. If a third-party line offered you auto-refill and you accepted, switch it off through that provider.
Can I get a refund on unused minutes?
Generally not; prepaid minutes work like a phone card. Contact the provider directly about duplicate or mistaken charges.
Why does the charge on my card have a different name?
Providers bill under a corporate name rather than the line's brand. The provider's customer service can confirm which purchase it was.
Will a chat line charge my phone bill?
No. Purchases are made by card. Toll-free calls are free; local-format numbers are ordinary domestic calls on your plan.
Editorial disclosure: Chat Line Network operates its own family of chat lines (marked "Network Line") and lists well-known third-party lines for comparison. We never accept payment for rankings. Phone numbers, free-trial lengths and package prices are taken from each provider's published offer and re-checked periodically, but providers can change them at any time; the offer you hear on the recording when you call is always the final word. All lines are for adults 18+.
