The number will not connect
Dial the number exactly as printed, including the leading 1 for toll-free numbers if your carrier requires it. Some prepaid or metered plans block toll-free or out-of-area numbers by default; call your carrier to check. Some VoIP and internet-calling apps do not route to toll-free numbers at all — try from a normal mobile or landline. If a number in our directory does not connect from a standard phone, the provider may have changed it; the review page shows when we last re-checked, and we welcome reports.
The keypad does not respond
The menu needs touch tones (DTMF). Most phones send them automatically; some calling apps have them switched off or set to an unsupported mode. Look for a "DTMF", "keypad tones" or "touch tones" setting and enable it, or try a different phone. On a speakerphone, background noise can also drown the tones — hold the handset to your ear when pressing keys.
The line did not recognise my free trial
Trials are tied to the number you call from. Common causes: you called this line before from the same number (the trial is one per new caller); your caller ID is blocked, so the system cannot identify you; or you are calling through an app or office system that presents a shared number someone else has used. Call from a personal mobile with caller ID on. If the recording still does not offer a trial you believe you are entitled to, the provider's customer service can check.
There is nobody in the room
Usually a time-of-day or region issue rather than a fault. Local sorting shows you nearby callers first; if your area is quiet, use the keypad option to widen to neighbouring regions or all callers. Try again in the evening, when phone chat has traditionally been busiest, or try a line built around a round-the-clock room. Leave messages for a few greetings — callers who dial in later will hear them and can reply.
Lost membership ID or PIN
Call the provider's customer service — the number is on the recording — with the phone number and card you purchased with. They can recover or reset your credentials. Do not buy a new package to get around it; your existing minutes are still there.
Poor call quality or dropped connections
Live connections are bridged through the provider, so a weak signal on either end affects both. Move to a spot with a stronger signal, switch off Wi-Fi calling if it is flaky, or use a landline. If you are dropped mid-conversation, redial — your greeting and balance are intact, and the other caller may still be in the room.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the chat line say the number is not in service?
Either a misdial, a carrier block on toll-free or out-of-area calls, or a provider change. Try from a standard phone; if it persists, check the review page and let us know.
Why will the menu not accept my key presses?
Your phone or app is not sending touch tones. Enable DTMF in the app settings or use a different phone.
I was told I already used my free trial but I never called. Why?
The number you are calling from has been used on that line before — perhaps by a previous owner of a shared or recycled number. Provider customer service can review it.
The room is empty. Is the line dead?
Rarely. Widen the region, call in the evening, or try a round-the-clock line. Leaving messages also works while you are away.
Editorial disclosure: Chat Line Network operates its own family of chat lines (marked "Network Line") and lists well-known third-party lines for comparison. We never accept payment for rankings. Phone numbers, free-trial lengths and package prices are taken from each provider's published offer and re-checked periodically, but providers can change them at any time; the offer you hear on the recording when you call is always the final word. All lines are for adults 18+.
